Kiyor

(Water Basin)

The Story:

After designing and printing an Aron, I was interested in attempting another keili from the Mishkan. When I mentioned to my son's principal that I've printed Mishkan parts, in case he'd be interested for the 4th grade class, he said that they actually built all of the keilim out of wood, except for the Kiyar. That inspired me to try to design and print the Kiyor in Solidworks. Since the Kiyor does not have specific dimensions in the Torah, I needed a model to base mine off of, so I used Artscroll's well researched rendering of the Kiyor. I found a really nice copper color PLA on Amazon, and I loved the shine in the final print, as well as the significant difference in color in comparison to my gold color PLA.

One side note, this was the first time that I recorded myself from the beginning to end of a project, including CAD designing, slicing, and printing. I sped up the whole process, condensing the 30 minute Solidworks video and 9+ hour print into the one minute video seen below.

I uploaded my CAD model to Thingiverse where it can be downloaded here.
